This is what it looks like assembled, the tube is actually too long but i wanted one that I could cut to size.
This is what is comonly reffered to as the BHAF or big honkin air filter mod. It is extremely easy to do since all the parts can be bought from your local parts store and are really cheap. The great part of this mod is you get more air flow than a K&N with better filtration.
The kit consists of nothing more than the filter and a piece of 4" exhaust tubing with a 45* bend. I got one that measured 8" on both sides of the bend then wiped it down (inside and out) with paint thinner and sprayed 5 coats of cheap gloss black and a couple coats of clear just to make it look good.
The Filter is a Wix (p/n 46637) or Baldwin (PA2818) and they are both acctually made by duralite so they are the same thing just different box so you can just shop around and see what you can get the cheapest. I paid about $25 for mine. Make sure you use a quality clamp as you have to crank it down pretty hard to get it to seal since the flange of the filter is rather stiff. I went a step further and applied a small about of #2 form-a-gasket around the pipe before i attatched the filter.
The elbow I actualy bought pre-made from the local auto parts store for about $20
In the end i spent about $45 (about $100 cheaper than K&N) and have a filter that is VERY efficient and will last a long time between service.
